Our Digital Technology students recently participated in the La Trobe University X Tech Schools Sustainability Challenge, an incredible opportunity for our Year 9 students to make a meaningful impact on local sustainability issues.
The challenge involved teams of four choosing from one of the following broad themes, with additional focused challenge topics provided:
- Consume with Consideration
- Water Management
- Move Lightly
- Rethinking Climate Action
- Biodiversity.
Our students selected the theme of Water Management and developed a water filtering device designed to remove harmful bacteria and pollutants from water, making it safe for drinking. This innovation aims to reduce the reliance on bottled water and, consequently, plastic waste.
The students presented their ideas to a panel of community experts, which included department heads from La Trobe University, local municipal personnel, and directors from various Tech Schools in the area. Through this challenge, our students gained valuable insights into problem-solving, systems thinking, and essential presentation skills.
At Al ¾ÞÈéÊÓƵ, we highly value real-life learning, and this excursion truly embodied that principle.
